Kind Hearted Apple Donates $8 Million To Chinese Earthquake Victims

Subsequent to destructive earthquake that moved Sichuan, China that claimed hundreds of lives and property worth millions, Apple has pledged to donate $8 million to victims of the natural disaster. Addressing the issue on its Chinese website, Apple said “In this difficult time, our hearts are with the victims of the Sichuan earthquake ...” it’s good to know that despite of 18% percent loss in overall benefit (first time in 10 years) apple has donated such a huge amount. Earthquake of magnitude 7.0 took place on Sunday, killing nearly 200 people and left thousands of other citizens injured or missing. Apple Inc showed its condolences to all those and committed to offer Apple financial-assistance and new iDevices to schools within the disaster area.

Always Kind Hearted – Apple

It’s not for the first time that apple has donated open heartily, but last year it donated more than the $2.5 million in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Additionally it launched several apps and programs to facilitate donations from iTunes visitors. In terms of revenue generation for iDevices, China stands second to USA and Tim Cook has said he expects china to replace USA. During his visit to China Cook said “We are growing very fast. We are continuing to invest in retail stores here and will open many more over the next several years. It's a very, very important country to us.’ During his trip, Cook was also found negotiating with China Mobile (the world's largest wireless carrier) to sell the iPhones. Apple is known for making perfect things but, hasn’t been able to impress Chinese consumers and establish the Apple brand in China.

Bringing Controversy to End

China Consumer Association filed a plea in which they accused Apple of discriminating Chinese consumers by treating them differently than other customers around the globe. As a solution to this dilemma earlier this month, Tim Cook conveyed public apology to Chinese iDevice customers and modified its warranty and repair policies. In his policy change cum apology announcement, Cook expressed that he and apple has immense respect for China and Chinese people. By making donation Apple has shown maturity about to work and succeed in China.

Apple Not Alone in Making Donation

Apple Not Alone in Making Donation Even in the race of donation, Apple is followed by its arch rival “Samsung”. Like other business giants, Samsung has also donated ($9.5 Million) for rehabilitation for Chinese earthquake victims. Both Apple and Samsung are listening carefully on the Chinese smartphone market and their contributions will help support victims of the earthquake. Not only Apple and Samsung, but Alibaba and Tencent Holdings committed to donate 5 million yuan (Chinese currency). After criticism by microbloggers on such fewer donation amounts, Tencent was obliged to raise donation to 20 million yuan. Hon Hai Precision, a company manufacturing iphone and ipad, also pledged 50 million yuan. Google, Sina, Baidu, Sohu, Alibaba, Qihoo 360, Tencent and Google have jointly developed a lost and found website where families and friends can find reconnect with those they have been separated. Donations for disaster victims are not uncommon for Apple, as company previously offered relief money to victims struck by tragedy on several occasions.
